Fountain Hills' Concours in the Hills founder shares cancer survival story

Peter Volny: ‘I never expected to be alive at this point in my life.’

When local car enthusiast and former race car driver Peter Volny handed over the keys to his annual car show to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, it was due in part to his own cancer journey at a young age.

Volny developed colon cancer in his early teens.

In the 1950s, survival from cancer was poor, says Volny. Damaging surgery and relatively unsophisticated radiotherapy were the main treatments, assuming the disease was detected in time for anything to be done.
