Fountain Hills Community Garden celebrates eight years

Free event encourages food bank donations

The Fountain Hills Community Garden is marking its eighth anniversary with a celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, and instead of charging admission, organizers are asking visitors to bring canned goods to support the Extended Hands Food Bank.

The event will feature live music from The Sand Pigeons and more than a dozen local vendors, including Soap in Essence offering organic, vegan soaps and essential oils, Arizona Farm Grow offering raw honey and bee pollen and Picket Fence Pastry, serving up freshly-made sweets, to name a few. The Extended Hands Food Bank will be on-site with its new truck, donation barrels and booth, accepting nonperishable items, especially meals-in-a-can.

Guests can enjoy guided tours of the garden, greenhouse and beehives throughout the day. At noon, Debbi Romano, founder of Fountain Hills Healthy Heartbeats, will lead a cooking class that highlights how to prepare fresh meals using garden produce and discusses the nutritional value of canned foods.
