A significant construction project on Fountain Hills Boulevard is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 1.

This work will add paved shoulders on the roadway between Pinto and Segundo drives. It is primarily a Federal-Aid funded project with a smaller amount of town matching funds.

The Arizona Department of Transportation bid this project and awarded the work to Visus Engineering Construction, Inc. for approximately $880,000.

The project work schedule is for 120 days (plus approved extensions), beginning on Monday, April 1.

The scope of work includes:

*Adding 6-foot paved shoulders on both sides of the 1.5-mile roadway length, except at previously widened roadway sections.

*Thickened paved shoulder pavement for a potential future lane or turn pockets at selected locations.

*Adding a northbound right turn pocket at Trevino Drive.

*Adding shoulder ditches for improved drainage.

*Seeding the disturbed slopes outside of the shoulder ditches.

*Restriping roadway edge lines, signage modifications and erosion control measures.

Electronic message boards will be used to provide motorists with work zone traffic information.

The roadway will normally remain open in both directions. However, the traffic lanes will be narrowed and the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph within the construction work zone.
