The Fountain Hills Art League recently awarded two artists during the month of November.
Barbara M. Zahno was voted the Artist of the Month for November, taking the first prize award for her photograph, “Mystic Tree.”
“I have an affinity for trees and this photograph is one of my all-time favorites,” Zahno said, who added that the 11”x14” (19”x24” framed) color photograph was taken during a hike in Sedona.
Zahno liked the photograph she originally captured but wanted it to show a more artistic appearance. She ultimately transformed the photograph digitally with a topaz filter to achieve a watercolor-like look.
“I have this on my wall in my bedroom and I love to just look at it. It makes me feel good,” Zahno continued. “I like the lightness and peacefulness as well as the soft fall colors of this picture very much and was happy to share it with my fellow artists.”
The Art League also awarded Steve Gay, who took runner-up for his 24”x36” framed and matted, black and white, digitally-enhanced iPhone photograph, “Mitchell B25 Bomber, Oshkosh Wisconsin.”
Zahno’s winning artwork will be included in an upcoming holiday potluck to be held Monday, Dec. 4, where one Artist of the Month will be voted on to become the Artist of the Year.
The Fountain Hills Art League meets every first Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Community Center. For more information, visit fountainhillsartleague.com.
