Food truck to serve fish dinners for a cause

Extended Hands Food Bank will showcase its upgraded food truck on Friday, April 6, at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

Jim Bob’s fish fry dinners will return from 4 to 7 p.m., one Friday a month, as a fundraiser for the food bank, said executive director David Iverson.

“Now, not only will we be able to continue serving great-tasting fish and chips at events across Fountain Hills and beyond, but each purchase will provide food to the men, women and children in our community,” said Iverson. “Help us take a bite out of hunger with a tasty batch of Jim Bob’s famous fish and chips.”

Guests can eat the dinner in the Presbyterian Church’s fellowship hall or have it packaged for takeout. The meal will consist of fish, French fries, cole slaw and hush puppies for $12. No longer is the price all-you-can eat.

Iverson said he is connecting with local churches to host the food truck on their campuses. If interested, contact the office at 480-837-0303.

With the self-contained mobile unit, additional menu items such as chicken wings, donuts, cinnamon rolls and ice cream will be sold at the arts and crafts festivals. The food bank also provides ice to other fair vendors.

The organization installed a new refrigeration unit on a cargo truck used to safely transfer perishable foods to the facility.

Cosmetically, the truck was painted and wrapped with the food bank’s logo, “giving us a presence in the community as we travel for pick-ups,” said Iverson.

Easter donations

Donations to provide Easter dinner for 150 families are needed. The preferred items are hams, yams, potatoes and vegetables.

Donated items must be received in time for food bank volunteers to assemble and distribute holiday boxes the last week of March.
