I applaud the unanimous vote by the Town Council to restore the 20 percent cut in funding to the Extended Hands Food Bank.
The difference between what was proposed in the budget and full funding amounts to $4840. I fully understand the budget challenges the town faces given the problems created by the recession. The town must use its scarce resources wisely. But in a total budget of nearly $49 million, the money the council restored would create meals for hundreds of needy families.
Based on the article in last week’s Fountain Hills Times, the food bank is doing all in its power to raise money. We are a community with a huge number of volunteers for a multitude of projects. Helping each other and giving are hallmarks of our community. Helping to feed those less fortunate than us should be a top priority.
