Flawed Bill

1. Amnesty. It creates a framework for legalizing an estimated 11 million people unlawfully present in the United States. This is amnesty.

The Gang of Eight immigration bill is severely flawed for a number of reasons.

1. Amnesty. It creates a framework for legalizing an estimated 11 million people unlawfully present in the United States. This is amnesty.

2. The fiscal costs to the taxpayers would be enormous. It doesn’t account for government benefits, such as welfare and entitlements, which would be paid to those who are legalized.

3. Government spending. It trashes fiscal discipline, includes a slush fund and exploits a loophole that allows Congress to spend more than allowed under the 2011 spending caps.

4. Border triggers. A secure border is not guaranteed. Border crossing conditions constantly change. Amnesty creates an incentive for illegal crossings and overstays.

5. Designed to solve everything. Reforming the legal immigration system is laudable. But trying to craft precise measures in a massive bill is difficult. Congress should work on one aspect at a time instead of a huge bill and their pet projects hidden within.

Let your legislative representatives know that you expect more from them than another train wreck.
