Fermin Gutierrez Rodriguez, of Fountain Hills, passed away on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at the age of 87.
Fermin was born to parents Juan Rodriguez and Maria Gutierrez Rodriguez on Oct. 13, 1930 in Phoenix. He was the middle child of three, growing up with sisters Juanita and Teresa.
In 1956, he married Mary Fernandez after returning from time in the Army serving in Korea. The couple had two children.
Fermin worked in construction as a laborer for many years but was always happiest to talk about his years as a security guard at the Arizona State Senate. This was his last job before retiring in 1996.
Fermin is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Fermin Rodriguez, Jr. (Shirley) and his daughter, Connie Brewster (Derrick); four grandchildren, Gabrielle, Michaela, Natalie and Nicholaus; and one great-grandchild, Alize. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Castro and Teresa Mendez; and his parents, Juan and Maria Rodriguez.
A service for Fermin will be held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary on Friday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley and flowers may be sent to Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
