Fearless Kitty Rescue is among several other rescues and shelters that will accept cats that were in Texas shelters before the floods. Keeping the displaced cats local increases their chances of being reunited with their families.
The cats being brought back to Fearless Kitty Rescue will be under observations for four to eight days while they are given wellness exams and any needed medical attention. After they are “good to go,” they will be available for adoption.
“Not long after the flood, Best Friends sent out a bulletin about their rescue efforts and asked their network partners if they could take pets that were already in Texas shelters to make room for those they saved in the floods,” Deanna Schlagenhaft said, Fearless Kitty Rescue executive director. “We jumped at the chance.”
In response to the growing need for collaboration among animal rescues during times of crisis, Fearless Kitty Rescue has launched a dedicated Disaster Response Program.
This initiative was inspired by their experiences assisting cats displaced by Hurricane Harvey and the California wildfires, which highlighted the critical importance of mutual aid among shelters and rescues during emergencies.
The program’s first official action is the intake of the 10 cats from Texas shelters. To continue this lifesaving work effectively, Fearless Kitty Rescue is actively fundraising for a new, larger transport van to replace its 10-year-old vehicle. The new van will be custom-retrofitted to ensure the safe and humane transport of multiple cats.
