FDR statue

Franklin Deleno Roosevelt was paralyzed from the waist down before his presidency began. Photos of him in his wheelchair were not allowed, so the public never knew. He felt that if people knew, he could appear to be weak.

FDR’s paralysis is not a secret anymore. Footage of him in his wheelchair is not shocking or upsetting. It’s how he was. How he was.

What is shocking and upsetting to me is that he is standing; not a true image. I think it would have made a bolder statement if FDR was sitting in that wheelchair!
