It’s no secret and very apparent to me that Councilman Art Tolis is behind at least one of the two challengers (if not both) in the upcoming election for the Sanitary District Board.
The two incumbents, FHSD Vice Chairman Thomas Reski and Director Gregg Dudash, are exceptionally qualified for their positions. Between them, they have over 70 years of experience and knowledge of the operations of sanitary districts and wastewater treatment plants.
The two contenders’ experience? They each took a whopping 20 minute tour of the FH waste treatment plant.

Before September 2017, neither of the two contenders had ever attended a FHSD board meeting. I’ve attended at least five, if not more, over the years. Two weeks ago, one contender attended a FHSD board meeting but left early. He must have been bored!
At the recent Chamber of Commerce breakfast, I think everyone would agree that Reski and Dudash have immense knowledge of the processes, financial planning and systems involved with the Sanitary District. As Reski clearly pointed out, the reason he’s been on the board for so long is…“no one has ever wanted the job.” In addition, he clarified that the Board does not run the Sanitary District. That’s for the District Manager and their staff to do.
The Sanitary District Board’s role is primarily fiduciary. During that meeting, it was abundantly clear to me that the two contenders had absolutely no clue as to the responsibilities of the board. In the upcoming election, vote for Thomas Reski and Gregg Dudash, the only two qualified candidates in the race for the Sanitary District Board.
