Kudos to the Fountain Hills Town Council for their unanimous vote to ban animals as prizes!
Pet giveaways often sweep people up into the excitement of the event and the desire to “win something,” without considering the time, supplies and effort that will be needed to provide that pet with a good quality of life.

Pet giveaways often sweep people up into the excitement of the event and the desire to “win something,” without considering the time, supplies and effort that will be needed to provide that pet with a good quality of life.
The unfortunate consequence of this is that many pets who are spontaneously acquired end up neglected after their novelty has worn off.
Those who sell or place animals have an ethical responsibility to ensure that animals are placed in lifelong homes. I hope that other cities and towns will follow the example set by the Town of Fountain Hills.
