Elected Representative Kavanagh, the fact is you are not a police detective anymore; you are an elected official whose job is to serve all the constituents in your district.
When you wrote an open letter to The Arizona Republic’s opinion column, you should have expected your voters to respond in kind.
Regarding penalty vs. restitution, you wrote “Worse yet the U.S. Attorney’s office set the penalty as Bashas’ paying restitution by donating $1.4 million to area food banks” (italics mine).

I was quoting you, Kavanagh.
Kavanagh, I should have expected no less than this type of response from you, an elected official who spends his time writing laws to place guards at public bathrooms in Arizona.
Thank goodness the majority of the elected members of our Arizona state legislature voted down your proposed law as a gross waste of taxpayer’s money and the state legislature’s time.
In a time when huge numbers of Arizona voters are in need of good paying jobs, our elected official Kavanagh thinks only of his personal needs, not the needs of the majority of his constituents.
You are right; food bank patrons do not buy $25 per pound imported Japanese Kobe hamburger, nor do the majority of your constituents.
