Enjoy dinner around the world Oct. 8
Posted
Fountain Hills Sister Cities will sponsor an evening of foods representative of the town’s four Sister Cities on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for two. The event will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Center. A wine and beer cash bar will be available.
The Rice Brothers (Johnny and Chris), a duo of young Polish-American musicians, will entertain.
Proceeds from the event will be used to help with the funding of activities for 24 exchange students visiting Fountain Hills from Oct. 17 to Nov. 2.
Twelve students and two teachers are coming from Sister City Dierdorf, Germany. Another Sister City, Zamosc, Poland, is sending 12 students and three teachers to stay with host families and experience life in Fountain Hills.
They also will explore parts of Arizona as they travel by bus to Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona Museum in Flagstaff, and Tonto Natural Bridge.
Outdoor activities will include horseback riding at Fort McDowell and kayaking on the Salt River.
In May, 2017, 24 Fountain Hills students and their chaperones will stay with host families in Dierdorf and Zamosc.
Appetizers for the Oct. 8 dinner will be pupusas, from an original El Salvadoran recipe. The Polish main course will include cabbage rolls, kielbasa (sausage), pierogis (dumplings) smothered in onion and bacon; Anna potatoes and string beans.
Dessert will be apple strudel from a German recipe. Chef Abraham of the Fireside Grill will prepare the meal.
The Rice brothers are both classically trained on the piano and cello. They made their debut in 2014 in Carnegie Hall and have performed coast to coast in the United States and in Europe.
Each was named a gold medalist at an international Chopin piano competition and has been soloists with orchestras. As a duo they play classical, jazz, Boogie Woogie and ragtime.
“Fountain Hills citizens are urged to support this student exchange program by attending the ‘Dinner Around the World’,” said dinner chair Elizabeth Horchem.
Checks should be payable to Fountain Hills Sister Cities and mailed to Christine Colley, 16033 E. Primrose, #109, Fountain Hills, 85268. Payment must be received by Saturday, Oct. 1.
