Can we address the elephant in the room? I hear so many residents tell me they can’t support a property tax because of the money that was spent on a feasibility study for a lagoon. Trust me, I was equally annoyed. That single decision had a far-reaching affect, resulting in the unfortunate distrust of our council members.

But do we want to give that one single decision so much power that it puts our town at risk? If we hang on to that anger and mistrust, where does that lead us? What are we willing to give up in town that allows us to hang on to those feelings? Do we shut down the fountain? Do we reduce the hours of the Community Center? Do we let our roads continue to deteriorate, decreasing the value of our homes?

I urge you to put your anger aside and consider what is best for this town. You have the power to save our town; don’t give up that power to an error in judgment. You also have the power to elect leaders that you trust. But let’s start somewhere! Kick that elephant to the curb. Vote yes for a primary property tax.
