Election results and high-flying Falcons

It’s Sunday as I’m writing this, which means we’re only a couple of days out from the big election. Since it is Wednesday or later as you are reading this, hopefully we have a pretty good handle on how things turned out by now.

All I know is, some of us are going to be happy with the results while others will no doubt be upset. Still more will be satisfied with the outcome of some elections and distraught about the others.

No matter what happens, though, I hope we all remember that we’ve made it this far and, up until now, I think this young country of ours is doing pretty well. Things are nowhere near perfect, of course, but we’ve come a long way.

No matter how things go with the results, I hope we are all willing to work together in order to keep this town, state and nation moving steadily toward a brighter tomorrow. You may not like who is calling the shots or the way propositions or local elections turned out, but it’s what the majority decided. That’s how these things work and, assuming you got out there and voted, you can at least rest easy in knowing you did your part, even if things didn’t turn out the way you had hoped.

I know I’m speaking from the past here, but I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that, whatever day you are reading this, the sun rose this morning. I have a pretty good feeling it will set tonight, too. I’ll go one step further and guess that the same thing will happen tomorrow and even the day after that.

We keep moving forward and things keep changing. Just keep trying to make things better in your own way and maybe give those decisions we made collectively a chance to actually work as they are intended. If they don’t move things in a positive direction, we can figure out what comes next.

That’s my plan, anyway. No matter the outcome, I’ve set my mind on letting the dust settle. Rather than speculate, celebrate or mourn before anything has even happened, I’m going to let things take their course and wait on some actual results.

And speaking of results, something happened this weekend that I think we can all agree was pretty fantastic: The high school volleyball team brought home the Division III state championship. These local ladies have worked extremely hard to reach their ultimate goal of a season title and, Saturday evening, they achieved exactly that.

Joining recent top performances and season titles from the high school girls basketball and soccer teams, I think there’s no denying that the Lady Falcons have become a mighty force.

The high school cross country team also had a solid showing at state this weekend, running against some of the best teams Arizona has to offer.

In the end, the girls took 16th place overall with the boys finishing 22nd.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. The Falcon marching band recently earned a rating of “Excellent” at state, capping off yet another fantastic season for the Fighting Flock of Falcon Fury. We’ll have more details on their season-ending competitions next week but, for now, congratulations band!
