Edward Andrew Bratle, 92, of Fountain Hills and previous resident of Dayton, Ohio for 55 years, left this life on July 15, 2014.
He was born June 11, 1922 in New York, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna Bratle and his brother, Carl George Bratle. Ed is survived by Bergliot, his wife of 67 years. He is also survived by his two daughters, Linnea (Steven) Grooms and Karen (Paul) Travis, and granddaughter, Emily Travis; and many wonderful friends and former colleagues.
He will always be remembered for his love of life and connection with people… he never knew a stranger.
Ed attended public schools in New York and pursued his study of mechanical engineering at universities in both New York and Colorado. He served in the U.S Air Corps and the U.S. Corps of Engineers during World War II. After the service, Ed was employed by a large multi-national company, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, manufacturing business equipment and computers.
He held various management positions for more than 35 years involving research and development, industry standards and international marketing where he traveled extensively throughout the U.S. Europe and Asia.
Ed was also involved with the development of the first retail product scanning system and he participated in its debut in June 1974 in Troy, Ohio. He later consulted with personnel working with the Universal Product Code (UPC) organization.
Ed enjoyed flying, bicycling, painting, jewelry making, shooting trap and skeet, and rebuilding cars, motorcycles and scooters.
Ed spent his last five years living in Fountain View Village. He was a kind, intelligent man, a great dad, and loving grandfather with a wonderful dry sense of humor. He was a very devoted husband and father. He will be sorely missed.
Ed will be buried in the National Cemetery in Arizona. Donations can be made in Ed’s memory to the Arizona Friends of Talking Books (azfotb.org).
