Four Peaks Rotary Club opened the New Year with a bang.
The club hosted Caitlin Crommett of Dream Catchers at its most recent meeting. The group also heard a report from the Golden Eagle Education Foundation.
Dream Catchers is a group of volunteers, primarily high school and college students, working with terminally ill patients to make their dream or wish come true.
Through the program, young people are connected to local hospice patients. There are 35 chapters in 15 states.
Crommett was inspired by the movie “Patch Adams,” when a patient told him she had always wanted to jump in to a pool of pasta.
“Patch made that happen,” Crommett told the group.
Dream Catchers is headquartered in Scottsdale and hopes to establish new student chapters in high schools and colleges throughout the country. Visit dreamcatchers1.org for more information. Crommett attended high school in the valley; her parents are Fountain Hills residents.
The Golden Eagle Education Foundation (GEEF) is a local non-profit which continues to offer local high school students 35 scholarships. GEEF also coordinates the Mentor Program, classroom projects and teacher/staff appreciation event.
After hearing the update from GEEF President Sandy Davis and GEEF Scholarship Committee Chair Marcia Hoenle, Four Peaks Rotary donated $3,000 to GEEF to further its activities.
Four Peaks Rotary Club meets the second and fourth Thursday beginning at 6:45 a.m. at Fountain View Village.
