I’m sorry that someone was rude to Ms. Nabers for showing her support for Trump. He has done his share to downgrade our society by making rude and vulgar behavior acceptable and displaying it himself, over and over, on the national stage.

Maybe it will help to understand that to many people, the name Trump is synonymous with “hate.” It will take some time for us all to learn that we can’t fight hate with more hate.

If I wore a t-shirt or bumper sticker that said, “Mexicans are Rapists” or “Force yourself on Women, because you can” or “Ban Islam” or “I like to make fun of the Disabled” or “Prisoners of War are Losers” I would expect any thoughtful and caring person to take offense.

I would expect anyone to stand up for our American values and say something only, certainly, in a more civil manner than you experienced.

And, “wow” to Ronald Weir (letter 11/16/2016) who had to go all around the block to make himself feel like Trump won a majority of votes. What would America be like without New York and California?
