I have serious doubts about council member Magazine’s credibility. After reading the Times’ article “Councilmember Magazine called out at town meeting,” I found myself questioning Magazine’s version of events.
The article discusses the Town brought in a mediator to help resolve the formal complaint brought against him on August 27. Yet, Mr. Magazine did not attend the meeting with the mediator. If he is so confident that he did nothing wrong, why did he refuse to meet with the mediator?
His refusal to meet with the mediator escalated the situation, whereby the Town brought in an independent retired Court of Appeals Judge (Cecil Patterson - who specializes as an ethics hearing officer) to examine the formal complaint filed against Mr. Magazine. The judge’s examination of the facts determined that Mr. Magazine violated four provisions of the Town’s Code of Ethics.

Mr. Magazine’s responses concerning the formal complaint are troubling. He questions the judge’s decision by implying the judge “was taken in” by Lina Bellenir. He then rambles on about “so called facts” that the judge used to rule upon. If one researches Mr. Patterson, one will discover the judge has had a distinguished career (known for his integrity). This is why the town sought him out to resolve the matter.
Unfortunately, Mr. Magazine dismisses the findings without substance and thus causes me to question if he is confused about his own version of the events. I’m very concerned about Mr. Magazine’s rejection of the judge’s verdict.
I’m truly saddened that one of our town’s representatives threatened a woman and a private citizen.
