Dorothy Lou Ashmore, 85, of Scottsdale passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.
Born Feb. 22, 1932 in Sioux Falls, S.D., she was the youngest daughter of the late Walter and Marie (McGilvry) Grundler.
She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. She attended the University of South Dakota and had careers in teaching and real estate.
She married Gerald S. Ashmore in July, 1952. To this union were born three children, Daniel, Connie and Lisa. Dorothy enjoyed watching her children’s many activities, reading, golfing, bridge and the many friendships she developed over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Gerald, and by her two sisters, Delores Scott (Clayton) of Sioux Falls, and Vera Huter (Jim) of Denver, Colo. She is survived by Daniel Ashmore (Leslie) of Rapid City, S.D., Connie Brezik (Randy Hein) of Casper, Wyo. and Lisa Goos (David) of Scottsdale; and two grandchildren, Kathryn Ashmore and Joseph Ashmore.
Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined.
Memorials have been established to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Phoenician Hospice of Scottsdale, AZ, and Black Hills Children’s Home.
