I read with interest the article and opinions pertaining to the holiday tree display at the Community Center. I think the Fountain Hills Times Independent missed an important part of the story.
Each year the Community Center holds a tree display with a theme. This year’s theme was “The Five C’s of Arizona" (cotton, citrus, copper, cattle, climate). The Republican Club apparently decided to the ignore the theme set out by the Community Center in order to create a Trump/MAGA tree.
I hope next year (if there is a next year), the Republican Club will exercise some community spirit and grace and comply with the chosen theme.
As for the Trump mask that briefly resided inside the Democrat Club's wreath – also not a display of grace, which I assume is the reason it was quickly removed. It was emblematic of the frustration many of us felt as we saw a community display that we had enjoyed for years diminished by the Republican Club’s gratuitous political statement. And need I say a rubber mask is not a severed head?
Folks, it’s time we wake up and move forward with the serious business at hand, trying to live in peace with each other.
