Dedication, website, Camden

Despite the warm weather, there was a good turnout for the Dedication Ceremony for the Jerry Miles Sculpture Garden on Saturday, March 18.

Fortunately the event was held at 10 a.m. in the morning. Most of the people in attendance were sharing space under a small tent that was set up. Others found shady relief under the trees that are in the area.

The former mayor has been most responsible for the town‘s public art collection, which has gained national attention. When Arizona celebrated its 100th anniversary of Statehood, in 2012, Jerry conceived and led the development of the Centennial Circle, the area between the Community Center and the library/museum building. It has become the focal point of art work in the area.

The former mayor has been most responsible for the town‘s public art collection, which has gained national attention. It has become the focal point of art work in the area.

One person who wasn’t at the dedication was Public Art Committee Chair Sandi Thompson, who was injured recently in a bicycle accident. She suffered a broken collar bone and a badly-bruised hip. She is supposed to sing in the Community Chorus concert on April 1 and 2. But she doesn’t know if she will be feeling well enough to participate by that time.

Diane and I and many others in the community are wishing you a speedy recovery.

Our new website was unveiled on Monday March 20. The reason for the new site was to make it easier for our readers to enjoy the news on mobile devices. The new site is more responsive and consistent on different screen sizes from computer monitors to tablets to cell phones.

The new site will also allow us to feature videos for news and businesses easier. Also, there are more opportunities for businesses to promote themselves and their events on the calendar, classified ad pages and business directory.

With any new website there may be some hiccups, so please let us know if you find any problems or have any suggestions.

Diane and I recently took another trip to Las Vegas to celebrate the third birthday of our grandson, Camden, on Feb. 18.

He’s the miracle grandson who had four holes in his heart when he was born and had to have reconstructive surgery on his heart when he was just four months old.

That surgery took five hours to complete. He is now running everywhere he goes and his heart doctor said he should not require any more surgeries.

He wants to be an astronaut. He is always playing with his toy rockets and space shuttles. He can tell you all of the planets and their location in the solar system.

We can’t wait to see him play in Little League baseball and soccer games. The way he likes to run, he should have the stamina to cover the soccer field.

That’s amazing when you consider three years ago, we were wondering if he would reach his first birthday.

Well, my Diamondbacks tickets were delivered last week. The home opener is on April 2.

That means Spring Training is almost over. I have two games left at the Giants stadium in Old Town Scottsdale. Recent games got pretty warm this year with the record heat.

But these last two should be comfortable with a high of 69 predicted for Thursday and 82 on Saturday!
