DEA executes search warrant in FH

Posted

Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents assisted by a SWAT team rolled into a quiet Fountain Hills neighborhood about midnight Friday, Aug. 15.

DEA Phoenix spokeswoman Ramona Sanchez said agents were in the area executing several search warrants related to a potential prescription narcotics distribution ring.

The warrants included at least one residence and probably associated vehicles, according to Sanchez.

On Friday The Times received numerous reports from neighbors in the area of Balsam and Fayette drives saying they heard gun shots or “flash bang” devices used by police for diversion when entering a structure.

There were also reports of a helicopter overhead for some time searching the area.

A neighbor told The Times a suspect slipped past officers in the dark and the helicopter responded in an attempt to locate the individual. However, The Times has learned that the main suspect was in custody at the time the warrant was being executed.

Sanchez said the investigation is ongoing and had no additional information available as of press time.

The Sheriff’s Office stated it was assisting DEA in the operation but referred any further inquiry to that agency.
