Bob Burns’ Feb. 25 article about a proposed rental development called “Daybreak” raised questions for me about “why?”
Why would Fountain Hills authorize 400 rental units, including an age-restricted apartment complex, 270 multifamily rental units and an assisted living complex, at the entrance on the west side of town, thus defiling “The gateway to Fountain Hills?” Why embrace a project with 600 parking spaces that would dump over 150 cars a day at rush hour into the already congested intersection of Palisades and Shea Boulevards?

This project would forever alter the entrance to Fountain Hills from Scottsdale and Phoenix. Currently, when you enter Fountain Hills, we are greeted by amazing vistas and attractive privately owned homes; this intersection is a signature feature of our town including, of course, our Fountain Hills welcome fountain. Fountain Hills has always been known for our views and beautiful homes and buildings; this project would obstruct the views and introduce advertising commercialization onto Shea and Palisades Boulevards.
The land in question is currently zoned for a resort hotel; the proposed plan would change this zoning to permit these low-cost rentals and is not consistent with the surrounding communities. This plan should be thoroughly rejected by town authorities.
