What a great week and start to the New Year. Fountain Hills received the prestigious designation of Dark Sky Community by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA); only the 17th in the world!
First, we want to thank the mayor, town council, town manager and town staff for their support of this effort.
Second, great accomplishments can only be made with a great team. For that reason, much credit and a big thank you are owed to the other members of the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association Board, namely Ted Blank, Clayton Corey, Amberleigh Dabrowski, Mark Derksen, Vicky Derksen, Craig Gimbel, Don Harvel, Dr. Paul McElligott, Jackie Miles, Jerry Miles, Lisa Miller, Kim Robertson and Jay Schlum.

Without their dedication and hard work, Dark Sky designation would not have happened.
Because of their unique talents, more is yet to come. Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 21. That’s when Fountain Hills will host its first Dark Sky Festival at the Community Center and Centennial Circle.
Already planned for the festival are nationally-known speakers, a mobile planetarium, exhibits, photo and art contests, and a huge, out-of-this-world star party. All free! Additionally, food and craft beers will be available.
More details will be coming and will be posted on our website, fhdarksky.com.
