Crystal Lagoon’s patents originate in Curacao which has an association with the European Union. Curacao is also a participant in the US Caribbean Basin Initiative allowing it to have preferential access to the US market. Fernando Fischmann, Founder/Chairman is a Director on the Board of the German scientific Fraunhofer Institute.
The Lagoon’s beautifully marketed Website states: “All of the lagoons using Crystal Lagoon’s technology around the world are monitored, controlled and operated remotely by the Crystal Lagoon’s Control Center (CLCC), via internet through the cloud, not requiring skilled people on-site.”
This means remote, permanent operation to control the microbiological properties of the water (from the EU Control Center?). This is also real time monitoring from Wi-Fi. What if their software was hacked? What if the town can’t afford their monitoring or proprietary additives? I’d feel more comfortable if this company originated in the U.S.

Typical lagoons use a pulsed disinfection system with approximately 400 different sensors and diffusers of injection of proprietary additives (oils, etc.). They use ultrasonic rays to get all the particles in the lagoon to agglomerate, flock and fall to the floor for removal.
If you review the Website, the town should consider the lagoon’s technology valuable to clean up the lake albeit a foreign monitored entity.
Overspray from the Fountain remains a serious concern, but the town is considering reducing the times the Fountain goes off. Parking should be addressed in the feasibility study; an additional parking garage should not be an afterthought. Doesn’t a bond cost approximately $50,000?
Crystal Lagoon’s Website also states they charge a royalty that corresponds to a small percentage of the real estate project sales, and the Lagoon will increase real estate profits and change the real estate paradigm.
