Cross country, football headed to state

Cross Country

The high school cross country team had a big weekend, with the girls coming away sectional champions and the boys taking sixth place overall. The teams ran out of Skunk Creek Landfill on Saturday, Nov. 2, tackling one of the toughest courses of the season with plenty of rolling hills. Now both the boys and girls squads are ready for state, which is set for this Saturday, Nov. 9, and will be hosted out of the Cave Creek Golf Course. The boys will run at 9:45 p.m. with the girls set to hit the course at 10:45 p.m.

Football

The Falcon football squad had a tough final game of the regular season, going on to lose to Blue Ridge 53-7. After pummeling Globe the week prior, the Falcons simply couldn't keep up with the top-notch Blue Ridge offense last Friday night. The team aims to shake off the loss and focus on the post season this week, however, as the local boys get ready to take part in state. The first round will be a road game for the Falcons, hosted out of Coolidge this Saturday, Nov. 9, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.

Volleyball

Unfortunately, the volleyball team did not make the state tournament this season. Brackets were released over the weekend and the Falcons were just shy of qualifying. While the team would have been on its way to the post season in previous years, a weak lower division meant two fewer teams were invited to the state tournament from Division III, Section III this season, which narrowly edged out the local team.
