Council to consider ending sign permit rule
Posted
A-frame business signs return to the Town Council agenda this week as staff proposes a change to help improve compliance with sign regulations.
Staff is suggesting that the council eliminate the requirement that a $5 permit be acquired and placed on each sign.
Lack of a permit is one of the major violations for the use of the A-frame signs.
The permit requirement was enacted as a way to get business owners to make contact with Town Hall before using a sign so they might be informed of the regulations and staff could see what was proposed for the sign.
The proposal by staff does not eliminate any other regulations in place for the use of A-frames.
The rules allowing the A-frame signs could “sunset” at the end of the year if business compliance with the regulations do not improve.
The agenda also includes a proposal by the Community Services Advisory Commission to address complaints about noise coming from the dog park at Desert Vista (see separate story).
The council will also be discussing a letter from the Strategic Planning Advisory Commission regarding steps to move forward with a Strategic Plan update.
There are also agenda items related to amending the Town Code regarding civil citations and how they are delivered, and amending the town financial policies regarding the Rainy Day Fund.
The council will consider accepting the donation of a painting by the late Karen Holloway, a long-time resident and community volunteer.
The painting is entitled Red Rock Crossing and would be placed in the Community Center Yavapai Room.
Prior to the regular session this week the council is to meet in closed executive session to discuss the annual review of Town Manager Ken Buchanan.
The council meets Thursday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The regular session is open to the public.
