Council honored for ban on smoking

The Fountain Hills Town Council is being recognized by the Arizonans Concerned About Smoking (ACAS) for action it took in June to ban smoking in town parks and open spaces.

In a letter notifying Mayor Linda Kavanagh of the recognition, ACAS Executive Director Philip J. Carpenter said the group wishes to recognize the council with a Health Leadership Award.

“This award recognizes the town’s efforts in transitioning all Fountain Hills Parks, Mountain Preserve areas and trail systems to being smoke free except in signed and designated smoking areas,” Carpenter said.

The regulation includes lit tobacco products and e-cigarette and vape type products.

The town is to be presented with the council at the organization’s 11th annual Health Leadership Award Ceremony in February 2019.
