I am writing to express my deep concern about the newest ethics violations claim by ROT Chair Crystal Cavanaugh, against Council Members Peggy McMahon and Brenda Kalivianakis.
Having been the target of ROT, its misinformation and its underground Facebook pages during the 2022 election, I have experienced their harassment tactics. These current attacks on two people who sincerely wish to represent our community are a disservice to us.
It's important to remember that this is not the first time Ms. Cavanaugh and ROT have engaged in questionable actions against our town. They previously filed a lawsuit against the town attempting to blame the town for ROT’s what appeared to be their own mistake on the proposed Target apartments petition. This frivolous lawsuit was ultimately thrown out by the court, potentially costing Fountain Hills taxpayers thousands of dollars in legal fees. The judge's ruling against ROT was decisive, questioning the group's facts and deeming their arguments unconvincing.
This new ethics violation claim is again frivolous and will again require legal costs and town employee time. Such partisan attacks in order to support the ROT-backed members of Town Council disregard the best interests of our community.
Our community deserves respect and encouragement for those who volunteer to guide our town, not personal attacks and legal actions based on misinformation.
