Fountain Hills council approves agreement extension

Golden Eagle Park Dam improvements

The Town Council has approved a request to extend an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County (FCDMC) to address delays in design work and keep grant funding in force.

The town has been working for several years to address flood issues surrounding the storm water impoundment area in Golden Eagle Park, behind the detention dam.

Public Works Director Justin Weldy told the council the town has had an IGA with the flood control district to assist in funding drainage improvements related to the dam. The project includes removal of sediment in drainage channels near the dam, removal of an inlet access barrier at the outlet structure through the dam, removal of the drop inlet approach to the outlet structure, regrading drainage channels near the dam, installing debris collecting structures such as bollards upstream from the dam, and construction of a sediment drip basin near the dam.
