CopperWynd plans major expansion

CopperWynd Resort and Club, a premier luxury boutique resort in Fountain Hills, has announced a major expansion and renovation that aims to create a destination resort for the community.
CopperWynd Resort will be expanding the number of guest rooms from its existing 32 to 300 and will also be renovating its event space with a new conference center.
Working with the resort on the project will be the internationally renowned hotelier, Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, and one of North America’s most sought after architectural firms, Allen + Philp Partners, according to Jordan Rose with Rose Law Group, attorney for CopperWynd.
Built in 2000 and located in the McDowell Mountains, CopperWynd Resort has been widely recognized with numerous awards from national travel publications. The resort offers a full service restaurant, pools, tennis courts, café, and a spa. The restaurant, Flourish, has not only won accolades for fine dining, but also provides guests with scenic vistas of the McDowell Mountains, providing a memorable dining experience.
The Club at CopperWynd is accessed not only by guests, but also Fountain Hills residents who want to enjoy membership to a world-class fitness center, offering yoga, Pilates, spin, and other group exercise classes.
“Our town is one of Arizona’s most magnificent and beloved destinations, evidenced by the thousands of annual visitors,” said William Hinz, CopperWynd Resort’s owner. “Unfortunately, our town’s visitors now stay in hotels and resorts in neighboring cities because there simply aren’t any luxurious resort offerings in Fountain Hills.
“The time is now to build an iconic resort that the town deserves. With a resort that will be a crown jewel, we will ensure that when visitors come to Fountain Hills, they stay in Fountain Hills.”
Fountain Hills Mayor Linda Kavanagh said she is eager for the new project to move forward.
“I am very excited about the redevelopment of the CopperWynd Resort into a luxury, modern hotel,” Kavanagh said. “Sitting high in the McDowell Mountains at an elevation of 2500 feet, the new hotel will take advantage of the most beautiful and expansive views of the Sonoran Desert, the town of Fountain Hills and our iconic Fountain.
“CopperWynd has always been the jewel of Fountain Hills, offering the most spectacular venue for weddings and other special occasions and championship tennis competition. A total redevelopment of the current hotel and a future expansion in phase two will make CopperWynd a top, premier resort that will draw visitors worldwide.”
After the expansion, stakeholders say each of the additional guest rooms will offer magnificent amenities designed to please even the pickiest of travelers. Each guest room will have a gas fireplace, oversize deep soaking bathtub and separate shower, all in a setting that uses a contemporary color palette and design.
Architecturally, the new hotel wings will incorporate the deep massing of the existing clubhouse’s pueblo style. The buildings’ form will also reflect the site’s landforms, creating courtyards and exterior spaces enhanced by the valleys and canyons that are abundant in the region.
An on-site chapel will be designed to frame the spectacular views of the mountains and the Sonoran Desert.
It is expected that as more travelers and visitors stay in Fountain Hills at an expanded and more luxurious CopperWynd Resort, more tax revenue will be generated for the town. Rose said a study indicates that annual tax revenues generated by the resort will increase tenfold, from $160,000, generated in 2016, to $1,650,000 by the time the expansion is complete.
