Watching the 2016 election shenanigans reminds me of my high school days. Granted those days for me were over 50 years ago, so the memory may be a bit faded. But I thought I should share some observations.
First of all, we remember how the “cool” kids had their special table and only they could sit there.
Other kids tried to be invited, but only a select few made the grade. The cool kids would make fun of the other kids, particularly the geeks and unpopular kids. They had their inside jokes and little snickers about the other kids. Often they would make fun and try to embarrass the other kids.

So now we are in the middle of a national election where we have an establishment, career politician, Hilary, and an outsider, Donald, as the major party candidates. So what has this to do with high school cool kids?
Well, it no longer seems to be cool to sit at the cool kids’ table and a lot is at stake. The cool kids have run the show and said who could get what for years. You had to suck up to the cool kids to get ahead and to be accepted. Now with an outsider running for president of the United States, everything could change. Pretty scary for the cool kids and those who want to be a part of the cool kids’ party.
So when you see Hilary with her little snickers and snide remarks, think of the leader of the cool kids trying to make fun of an unpopular kid. And when you see Donald on one of his rants, think of an unpopular kid taking on the cool kids. Maybe the cool kids are no longer cool?
