Connie, a resident of Fountain Hills since 1989, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 24, 2014 at the age of 80.
Connie was born Aug. 6, 1933 in Gas City, Ind. to Edwin and Mackie Sprague. At the age 14 she moved with her family to West Chicago, Ill. She graduated from West Chicago High School in 1951 and Northern Illinois University in 1955 with an art education major. She taught elementary art in Palatine, Ill. and Naperville, Ill.
Connie and Jack were married June 28, 1958 in West Chicago, Ill. Jack’s older brother Jim performed the ceremony. Jack’s cousin Nancy taught with Connie in Palatine. Nancy invited Jack to a weekly volleyball game where they met. Connie wasn’t really into volleyball but really enjoyed the post-game pizza and beer.
They lived in Naperville for 22 years before moving to Bainbridge, Ohio for two years. Fortunately a business transfer for Jack brought them to Fountain Hills in 1989.
While here in Fountain Hills she worked as a Realtor for Century 21 Anderson Group, enjoyed her Questers antique group and also a book club. In addition she enjoyed many activities at CopperWynd and really cherished time with her many friends in Fountain Hills.
Connie and Jack enjoyed traveling to several states including Hawaii for business trips and vacations. They had many pleasurable memories of cruises in Europe and the Caribbean.
Connie is survived by Jack, her husband of 55 years; daughter, Karen of Fountain Hills; son, John, wife Diane and their children, Michael and Natalie of Aurora Ill. Her younger sister Virginia as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws also survive her.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church located at Fountain Hills and El Lago boulevards. They have been members there since moving to Fountain Hills. Immediately following there will be refreshments served in the fellowship hall.
If you would like to make a memorial contribution it would be welcomed by Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Connie, a very caring, compassionate, fun-loving, and creative person with a wonderful sense of humor, will be deeply missed by her many friends and family.
