Voice coach Anita Bakey congratulates tenor Bjorn Eriksson on garnering the lead role of “Frederic” in Fountain Hills Theater’s production of Gilbert and Sulllivan’s operetta “Pirates of Penzance” May 17 to June 2.

Eriksson, a student of voice teacher/coach Bakey at the Anita Bakey Voice Studio for more than five years, has sung featured/leading roles with every youth theater in the greater Phoenix area, as well as several adult musical theater organizations.

Bakey states, “Bjorn’s voice is especially suited to the Gilbert and Sullivan lead tenor roles, of which there is one in every G&S operetta!”

In “Pirates of Penzance,” a rollicking farce, Eriksson as Frederic, the young hero, makes his way from a pirate band to an eager young lover and pursues the sweet young Mabel, with many mishaps in-between for all.

Premiered at the Fifth Avenue Theatre, New York, “Pirates of Penzance” was the only one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s works to have its official premiere outside London and opened to international acclaim.
