Last week I took Charles Vascellaro’s suggestion, expressing opposition to the lagoon in an email to the mayor. This letter contains part of the email, omitting shared concerns already expressed by others.
I agree that a beach area with amenities seems way out of character and contrary to the ambience of our quiet town. The projected cost and profit seem to be based on unrealistic expectations.
The lagoon would only be used for the few temperate months each year. Families from the East Valley are much more likely to choose Big Surf Waterpark in Tempe. How could a sandy beach be contained during high winds to prevent “dust devils?” There was no sand in the photos on the Big Surf website (bigsurffun.com).

As to infrastructure, how many port-o-potties would be needed and where would they be situated? Would concession stands require lengths of electrical cables?
My concern is that this project will diminish the overall park experience. Failure would necessitate an expensive overhaul to return the park to its current state. It’s hard to think of a single positive aspect.
