OPINION – Thank you to the council at the most recent meeting for standing firm on the deadline of Dec. 31, 2025, for Park Place II and III instead of extending it until Dec. 31, 2026.
It was obviously a plan negotiated in good faith between the town and the developer, which was approved by council in October, 2025, but it’s less obvious how everything was really negotiated. But one thing is clear to me after reading a social media post after the Nov. 18 meeting, and that’s that the developer was potentially never going to make the 2025 deadline.
And that was even clearer after I watched the exchange when spokespeople for the project, Yates and Shea, addressed the council ahead of the vote concerning the 2025 deadline. Both men made statements that it was only they who could do this project. They claimed the property would otherwise remain unimproved for years. Well, it’s been almost seven years already.
