I read with great concern the article in last week’s paper pertaining to the proposed non-discrimination ordinance.
While I am opposed to discrimination, I am also opposed to providing special privileges to one segment of society which is not equally provided to others in society. Isn’t this itself a form of discrimination?
Such an ordinance, if specific in nature, may well elevate some to an elite status in our community, granting them protection beyond what others receive.

Let us not forget that there are already federal and state protections for everyone in regards to discrimination. This additional ordinance is wholly unnecessary and merely adds another layer of government bureaucracy that is unwarranted.
Additionally, such an ordinance is potentially subject to interpretation by judges who seek to legislate from the bench. Once in place, the door is wide open for a myriad of potential issues.
It is my hope that our Town Council will not pass this ordinance.
