We must secure our borders, reduce the debt and stop government waste. Sound familiar? What’s missing? It’s the how.

Commonly missing are the particulars defining the how and the when. Hence, we’re forced to rely on concepts without knowing the details. No specifics, no restrictions, no costs, no ethics, no honesty, no transparency.

For example, if I told you I would repair your broken window but didn’t say the day, what window or provide a written work order and required an estimated pre-payment to be adjusted later...Would you commit? Feel familiar?

Concepts are things conceived in the mind, not actionable solutions. Concepts without any function and design can be harmful and costly. We’ve experienced disastrous unintended consequences from implementing bad concepts. Still it continues. Think concepts by themselves are capable of protecting us or insuring our general welfare?

Frequently concepts supported by only thoughts and notions become laws, executive orders and new rules and regulations without definition. It is common for our elected officials to allow the unelected bureaucrats to determine the force of authority that will be attached to a concept after the fact.

Almost always there will be items in the new laws that have nothing to do with the concept or the actual problem itself. It’s a means by which dishonest people obtain their objectives without consent of or any benefit to the governed. What’s your view?

Johann Georg Hamann: “Hence it happens that one takes words for concepts, and concepts for things themselves.” Is that what we’re doing?

I’m beginning to think this concept I have of people reading this letter and sending money, asking for autographs and throwing lavish parties may not happen. Oh well, so much for concepts. What concepts do you believe in without knowing the how?
