I am concerned about the wrongful, autocratic seating of three new advisory committees by the mayor: Economic Development, Law Enforcement and Veterans Recognition. Constituents have been asking me how they can volunteer to be considered for an appointment to these committees. Unfortunately, there has been no protocol established to apply. In fact, unless you know the mayor or have a personal relationship with him, it appears you will not be considered for an appointment.
The Town Code’s Rules of Procedure, sections 9.2 - 9.7, clearly establish the process for appointing committee members. The code was adopted to ensure fairness, transparency and merit-based opportunities for the most qualified applicants to serve on our boards and committees. But the mayor is disregarding the Town Code and subjectively creating important committee assignments populated by his friends and supporters.
Here’s a synopsis of the relevant code sections.
