A slate of climate activist candidates was headed toward a lopsided win Wednesday in the SRP election over those backed by Turning Point Action, a conservative group that wanted to curb environmentalists' influence over the largest public utility in the country.
The “Clean Energy” candidates won a majority on Salt River Project’s board while increasing their representation on the Tempe-based utility’s advisory councils, preliminary vote counts show.
Two candidates, who had business-community support and Turning Point backing, retained the board’s presidency and vice presidency, early results showed.
