Civility must prevail in Fountain Hills

OPINION – I am writing to express my profound concern and disappointment regarding the complete breakdown of civility at the recent town council meeting.

What began as a citizens' forum quickly devolved into a chaotic, out-of-control shouting match. After the mayor was forced to call a 10-minute break and offered a second chance for order, the yelling, hateful, and vile comments directed at the council continued, ultimately forcing the mayor to clear the room.

However, the situation escalated further. While I, a private citizen and former mayor, was speaking quietly with two long-time staff members on the side of the room, I became the target of the crowd's aggression. Without provocation, individuals began screaming at me, pointing, and demanding I leave the building.
