Chriss Alan Lloyd of Fountain Hills and San Antonio, Texas was born Jan. 28, 1945 in Lakehurst, N.J., and died peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side on July 5, 2016 at the Eckstein Center of Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale.

Although Chriss was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Dec. 31, 2015 he never lost his life-long positive attitude and his love of living life to its fullest. In fact, he was able to travel to Alaska for fishing and flightseeing with his granddaughter and other family from June 15 to June 24, 2016.

In Chriss’ bio for his 50th high-school reunion he wrote: “My life has been one of extraordinary LUCK!” and after his cancer diagnosis, he said “I have done everything I wanted to do in life and I have no regrets.”

Chriss grew up in Omaha, Neb. and graduated from Benson High School in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, leaving right after graduation and discharged in 1966 as a corporal. During his service he was stationed in California, Hawaii and Chu Lai, Viet Nam.

Chriss met his wife, Sally Bixler Lloyd in Scottsbluff, Neb. He attended Scottsbluff Junior College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1971. His career covered hospital administration in Omaha, human resources at Kawasaki Motors, Ameritas and Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, and human resources at West Telemarketing, Sandra Steen and Associates, and Sysco Food Services (VP) in San Antonio.

Chriss retired in 2007 and was a perfect model of how to be retired by spending his time as a cyclist, runner, hiker, potter, Bexar County Dispute Center mediator, fisherman, traveler, metalsmith, volunteer, and restorative justice proponent.

Chriss was a member of University Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and of The Fountains United Methodist Church.

Chriss continued his generous spirit by being a registered organ donor and by the donation of his tissues after death. He would encourage you to register, too.

Chriss is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter Kimberly Bartman and her husband, Rick and daughter, Eliana of Fountain Hills; brother Steve Lloyd and wife, Ann MacDougall of Nixa, Mo.; sister, Susan Foster and husband, Jim of Shrewsbury, Mo.; mother-in-law, Peggy Bixler of Scottsbluff, Neb.; uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Chriss is preceded in death by his parents, Chriss and Verla Lloyd of Scottsbluff and Omaha; father-in-law, John Bixler and brother-in-law, Craig Bixler of Harrison and Scottsbluff, Neb. Chriss’ family and multitude of friends will miss him greatly as he continues on his next adventure.

Memorial Services are scheduled for (1) Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at The Fountains United Methodist Church, 15300 N. Fountain Hills Blvd. in Fountain Hills, 85268; (2) Thursday, July 14, at 3 p.m. at University Presbyterian Church (UPC), 300 Bushnell in San Antonio, 78212; and pending for (3) July 22, or 23 in Scottsbluff; and (4) Omaha, date and location to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the following that were dear to Chriss’ heart: CaringBridge.org, Partners in Health (www.pih.org), Hospice of the Valley AZ (hov.org), The Fountains UMC, University Presbyterian Church, or the SoL Center in care of UPC.
