It’s been a turbulent few months for Jennifer Pearce, owner of Cards of Fountain Hills, after receiving notice from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) that her Contract Postal Unit (CPU)—an integral part of the shop’s business—would be closed by the end of September.
But when her USPS contract ends at the close of business Tuesday, Sept. 30, the store will reopen the next day, Wednesday, Oct. 1, as an independent mailing service, the result of Pearce’s efforts to keep mailing options available for her customers.
At Cards of Fountain Hills, customers will still be able to ship packages through USPS, though initially the store won’t offer UPS or FedEx shipping. Pearce said her goal is to offer those services by the end of October.
