On July 25, 2017 USAF Captain H. James Shutts of Fountain Hills passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 8, 1939, but spent much of his youth in Minnesota. While growing up he loved camping, fishing, sailing, and he was also a Sea Scout.
He spent many years in the Air Force as a navigator performing research missions in the pacific and also flew a mission in the Vietnam War. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Economics and he also performed graduate work at Drake University.
Jim moved to Fountain Hills in 1999 after a 29 year career with PPG Industries as an executive in sales living all over the country. Jim spent much of his retirement helping others with various household projects and he was a talented woodworker and craftsman.
He loved the friendly atmosphere of the Fountain Hills community and also his wonderful neighbors. His favorite place to be was outside, and he spent much of his time doing landscaping projects throughout his adult life. Jim was also a big fan of classic cars and enjoyed spending time at the car events in Arizona every year.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marie; daughter, Stephanie; son, Christopher; brother, Carl; sister, Dorothy, and two grandchildren, Margaret and Mackenzie.
The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. at the St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, 10755 North 124th Street, in Scottsdale. Jim loved his friends dearly, everyone is welcome.
