The Falcon boys soccer team only had one outing last week, going on to best Seton Catholic 3-2 in extra time, improving to 7-2 on the season and 4-0 in league play with only one more match-up separating the team from a brief winter break.
Set to be one of the biggest home games of the season, the Falcons invite all local fans out to see them take on the Coronado Dons this Friday, Dec. 20, at the high school field beginning at 6 p.m.
While the local boys will receive a break from academics through the two-week winter vacation, they’re still looking to get in at least a little bit of footy. The team is currently scheduled to take part in the Arizona Soccer Showcase, which will be held Dec. 27-28 at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix.

Seton Catholic
During last Wednesday’s match-up versus Seton Catholic, the Falcons were able to pull off a come-from-behind victory against the visiting school in order to keep their perfect league record intact, narrowly winning against the Sentinels, 3-2.
“We found ourselves down 1-0 at halftime despite enjoying the majority of possession in the first half and outshooting Seton 18-3,” said head coach Anthony Galietti.
From the onset, the Falcons had little trouble controlling the flow of the game, easily moving the ball up and down the field while Seton struggled to keep up.
While the Falcons got plenty of shots on goal, though, the Sentinel keeper was able to shut the local boys down through the first half while, out of just three shots on goal for their own efforts, Seton managed to sink one into the back of the net to go up 1-0.
“Throughout the opening 40 minutes, we came at the Sentinels time after time, but couldn’t find the back of the net,” Galietti said.
The local squad finally found some luck, however, finally equalizing shortly into the second half of play.
“Eventually, 15 minutes into the second half, David Grifo picked up a loose ball and beat two defenders before blasting a dipping shot over the keeper and just under the crossbar to level the score at 1-1,” Gallieti said.
“Minutes later, Seton was able to beat our defense and slot home their second goal of the night, going back up 2-1.”
The Falcons were once again down, but far from out.
“With just under 10 minutes left to play in the match, Cole McAuliff found the equalizer, heading home a corner kick from Cody Dunham,” Galietti said.
“We had the potential game-winning goal called back due to an offside call and the match went into two 10-minute extra time periods.”
The Falcons didn’t wait very long to take advantage of that extra time, earning the game-winning goal just three minutes into the first half.
“David Grifo found himself in space with two defenders to beat and he cut through the Sentinels and slotted home what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Falcons,” Galietti said.
“We were able to preserve the victory and almost added a fourth goal with moments left in the second 10 minutes of extra time.”
