Fountain Hills Boy Scout Troop 245 is once again doing its annual Christmas tree pickup fundraiser.
Members of the troop will be collecting trees after the holiday for a donation.
This year the troop will not be using the tree donations for summer camp as they have in the past. They will use the funds to support Casa de Sion, a charitable organization for orphans in Guatemala.

Boy Scouts picking up Christmas trees

Fountain Hills Boy Scout Troop 245 is once again doing its annual Christmas tree pickup fundraiser.
Members of the troop will be collecting trees after the holiday for a donation.
This year the troop will not be using the tree donations for summer camp as they have in the past. They will use the funds to support Casa de Sion, a charitable organization for orphans in Guatemala.
Members of the troop want to travel to Guatemala this summer to do volunteer service for the organization.
The Scouts are planning to teach life skills, help with construction projects and deliver needed food, clothing and supplies to the orphanage.
The trip will be in coordination with a number of Eagle Scout projects for boys in the troop.
Residents are asked to consider supporting the scouts by having their Christmas tree picked up after the holiday, whether you are a continuing supporter or new this year.
Residents can visit www.troop245christmastrees.com to schedule a pickup time. Those who wish can still leave a phone message by calling 480-256-8536 to schedule a time.
The troop is planning several large service projects during 2016, and even those without a tree to collect are invited to consider supporting the troop and its community service with a donation.
