So many letters here are about politics and religion. Face it, they’re a bore. Does the writer expect to change anyone’s mind?
Many are written over and over by the same person; some just go back and forth between two or three people. (Why not pick up the phone and call your antagonist?) My guess is most see the author’s name and don’t bother to read their diatribe.
Another topic is “change.” So many seem opposed to any kind of change or something new or different and exert energy complaining about it. Ever been attracted to a complainer?

Thankfully everyone can still say and write what he or she thinks, and I won’t argue that! But people should understand they won’t get traction or change anyone’s mind by constantly mouthing off about politics, religion, what’s wrong, or “don’t change!”
How about everyone else writing with positive suggestions about issues of local importance such as:
· How to support and enhance civic organizations and elicit greater cooperation and collaboration among them.
· What might be done to enhance our community with aesthetic or capital improvements?
· What can we do to encourage organizations to locate here such as a school branch, a home office or light industry?
· How can we convince young families this is the place to reside?
· What venue can be created for teens so they have a safe, fun place to go on Saturday night?
· What can merchants do to increase appeal to local shoppers?
And how about ways to get the 57 percent-plus who don’t vote involved? This begs for an answer because apathy by a majority will ultimately have dire consequences for everyone.
I for one find it more appealing to read letters suggesting creative ways to improve our town rather than all the negative ones trying to convince us someone or something is wrong.
