Blurred Vision

Tomorrow night, June 16, the Town Council will consider two critical resolutions concerning the $110 million Park Place development of downtown Fountain Hills. If approved, it will have a huge, long term impact, for better or worse, on our town.

In 2009, the Chamber of Commerce engaged Swaback Architectural (Mr. Swaback was a protege of Frank Lloyd Wright) to develop a Downtown VISION Plan, which was approved by FH residents.

I recently participated, along with hundreds of other residents, in VISION FH, a huge effort to define our town's future, which is a work in progress. Our River of Time Museum recently got approval to pursue their 20/20 VISION, building a new museum/observatory. Tomorrow night we will hear a presentation by the Town's Tourism Division, which will include the Tourism VISION.

As The Times’ "Our Viewpoint" discussion last week stated "We all want what's best for Fountain Hills, and now the question remains: Does Park Place fit the bill? Because of the huge impact of Park Place on all of us, we encourage all residents to get involved and stay informed."

There are very serious concerns with Park Place as it currently stands, with several "modifications" (variations and waivers of the Town's current development standards, ordinances and regulations). Just how much DOES Park Place deviate from all our VISIONS; and how much does it deviate from our standards, ordinances and regulations?

Show up tomorrow night and find out. Educate the Council on what the residents (the true stakeholders) think and want for our town's future.
